We are thrilled to return to Montreal for the Plural (formerly Papier) contemporary art fair. Visit our booth to see works by Lyne Bastien, Saimaiyu Akesuk, Myra Kukiiyaut, and a special feature on the North/South collaborative prints made by the Inuit artists of the Kinngait Studios (Kinngait, NU) and Studio PM (Montreal, QC).

Born in Abitibi, a forest-rich region in western Quebec, Bastien’s affinity for nature began during her youth spent camping, hunting, and fishing in the wilderness near her home. In the 1990s, she moved to Montreal to complete a degree in printmaking at Concordia University. When Bastien moved to the Arctic community of Puvirnituq in 2014, it brought her back to her Abitibi roots, reinvigorating her appreciation for nature which now informs her artistic practice.

Bastien works predominantly on paper using different methods in printmaking, as well as drawing. While living in Nunavik (Arctic Quebec) for six years, she travelled throughout the region to conduct printmaking workshops for interested locals. She also collaborated with Ivujivik artists Passa Mangiuk, Qumaq Iyaituk, Mary Paningajak, and the late Louisa Kanarjuak on several printmaking projects. Bastien is currently based in Montreal, QC.
